Fairfax House at Ginahgulla Road, Bellevue Hill, Sydney NSW 2023 is the family home built in 1857 for John Fairfax and later renamed Ginahgulla in its substantially intact garden setting, is a fine and now rare example of the Cottage Ornee architectural style.

Heritage Slate Roofing Installation Sydney
Scope of Works
- The roofing work included removing the terracotta roof tiles and re-battening the roof, as well as installing Procter breathable roof sarking. The Welsh Penryhn slates were then graded and installed with copper nails from the gutters to the ridge line by experienced roof slaters.
- Replace box gutters running the length of two roofs with 40kg/m2 lead stepped box gutters. The box gutters were reconstructed and the lead was shaped according to traditional workmanship, while the original 1857 channel remained in the roof space.
With All Lead Roofing Sydney project, Architectural Roofing Services uses premium grade 99.9% Lead material for all our roofing projects supplied by Midland Lead Australia.
- A new copper sheet roof hatch was constructed and incorporated back into the main roof, along with a new glazing system that matched the historic details. Install lead flashings in 25kg/m2 over window frames to seal glazing panels.
- To heritage roofing details, all chimney lead flashings were replaced in 25kg/m2 lead and fitted around new Welsh Penryhn slates.
- Supply and install 25kg/m2 lead valleys to the front of the slate roof building, affixed with copper ring shank nails.
- Supply and instal 30kg/m2 lead ridge and hips to all new slate roofing, including new timber wood roll. Each section of lead sheet hand fabricated and fixed to the wood roll with copper nails. Lead hips shaped with hand tools to provide lead bossed roll ends to heritage details.
- Design a new lead sheet finial for the front slate hexagon roof; the lead was shaped around the timber finial before being welded to the top of the hipped junction. Patination oil was then applied to all of the lead sheeting.
- To match heritage roofing details, lower concave metal roofs were replaced with 0.6mm galvanised corrugated rolled sheeting. Concave metal roofs had 25kg/m2 lead flashings on either end, as well as curved concave lead end flashings.
Cast Iron Installation
- Install new cast iron guttering in OG profile with external brackets back to the building and connected gutters to new 100mm cast iron downpipes and rain heads.
- Cast iron gutters in OG profile were install to lower corrugated metal roofs and then connected to rain heads.
- Cast iron downpipes were connected to original connections with new access gates including new cast iron offsets, junctions and bends.
