Residential Property – Leadwork Roofing and Copper Roofing Sydney
Scope of Works
Architectural Roofing Services, had recently undertaken heritage leadwork roofing and copper roofing repair works at a residential property in Bourke Street, Surry Hills NSW 2010.
Architectural Roofing Services has therefore also provided new design and consulting services to resolve the entry of water and to protect the structure of heritage building.

To protect the heritage fabric of the building, copper box gutters and copper roof flashing were installed along wall junction to roof extension window frames in 25kg/m2 lead flashing covered over wall heads.
With All Lead Roofing Sydney Project, Architectural Roofing Services uses premium grade 99.9% lead material supplied by Midland Lead Australia.
- The copper box gutters installed in four separate sections along the wall junction and custom folded in 0.6 mm copper sheeting then soldered together at the ends with each copper box gutter having a brass threaded outlet for water to drain out of. This will allow copper box guttering to expand and contract on each joint along the wall head.
- New 0.6mm copper wall flashings installed along the brick wall and cut into a rendered wall to provide a watertight seal. On the window wall junction side new stainless-steel flashing was fixed to window frames to seal copper box gutter, this was done in sections and soldered around corners.
- New 25kg/m2 lead wall flashings installed over heritage rendered wall heads, and lead installed on both sides of wall heads in 1-meter sections with welded locked seams with continuous copper clipping. This will provide secure fixings for wind resistance and quality workmanship.
- The best material is lead flashings for wall heads and stonework in terms of the durability for heritage building. The 25kg/m2 lead flashing with geo-tec underlay felt under lead gives barrier protection from rendered wall head and allows lead sheeting to breathe. One of the many but important characteristics of lead roofing is it can fit any shape and be welded to give 100% strength on corners and junctions. Lead flashings installed in sections allows expansion and contraction with internal copper clipping on welted joints.
- Once the leadwork roofing has been correctly installed, the new lead flashings should always have patination oil applied to protect the surface.
