Scope of work
Architectural Roofing Services undertook a major roof repair works after a scheduled site inspection of the main slate roof and roof flashings. The project aimed to protect and preserve the natural beauty of the heritage slate roof.
The work involved replacing poorly installed lead sheets and heritage roofing hips and ridge due to incorrect design. Hence, whilst undertaking specialist leadwork, we ensure that our work is completed to the heritage principle of work to install 30kg/m2 lead affixed with copper ring shank nails.
The second stage of work involved undertaking heritage slate roof repair works to replace existing slate with second-hand slate and affixed with copper nails. Additional work involved to make slate roof and garage roof watertight.
We replaced failed lead flashings to wall junctions with a new 25kg/m2 lead and 30kg/m2 lead flashings. Cut brick walls to remove existing poorly installed lead and installed new lead flashings in 1.5m sections to allow for expansion and contraction.
The roof repair works involved fabricating and installing copper gutter of the heritage property onto a slate roof and repair damaged copper gutter and soldered copper per traditional heritage workmanship. The curved copper roof was repaired and patched using 50/50 lead-tin solder and copper roll caps fixed with brass screws and lead washers. Lead flashings replaced and installed in 25kg/m2 lead with lead welded cappings over copper roofing.
